Stream Changes and updates

Word up! I recently kicked things into high gear with the purchase of a proper boom arm, pop filter and webcam, so I am getting closer to being a real streamer, except without the viewer count. I’m also making a concerted effort to keep to a fairly static schedule of 8PM Mountain Time (9 Central, 10 Eastern) for at least 3 hours a night. Sometimes I get started a little late, but will be making every effort to Tweet when I go live.

I’m not big enough to concern myself with a Discord server, and generally play single player content for the most part anyway, negating much of the need for Discord. And let’s be honest, we’re all probably connected to more Discord servers than we want to be anyhow.

I’m also doing what I can to write up reviews of games I’ve played on-stream, though I’ll admit I’m not really the best for it. They’re going to more accurately reflect impressions than reviews, as I won’t be going through the minutia that professional reviewers/writers do.

Spider-Man!

Spiderman on PS4 was the bee’s knees! It’s the second game I did a full stream of from start to finish following Heavy Rain.

Web swinging is very good, and while it was greatly improved over other modern Spider-man games, it still doesn’t top the swinging from Spider-man 2 on PS2 and Xbox.

Combat was fantastic, and as a big fan of “the Arkham” system created by Rocksteady, I fell in to it pretty easily and there wasn’t a great deal of difficulty until I tried for high scores and high combo counters. It took some getting used to having to Web zip to enemies instead of just attacking in their general direction and having the game zip and bounce and somersault towards the enemies. Combined with the reversing of positions of Y and B (Triangle and Circle respectively on PS4), even 20 hours in I was still messing those buttons up. That happens when you put in a solid 100 hours into Arkham games over the past few years.

Graphically, I’m always amazed at what truly talented developers like Insomniac, Guerilla and Naughty Dog can pull out of a PS4. Game looks ace, and the fact that everything was rendered in-engine (as evidenced by your chosen suit being on display in each cutscene) was great as well.

Sound was good, music was good, main Spider-Man theme they created is fantastic.

I appreciate what they went for with the stealth missions featuring Miles and MJ, with the intent being to break up the action with something different, but I think they’d have been better handled as just walking sims with some story exposition. The stealth mechanics used in these are braindead-simple and serve their purpose, but aren’t up to the quality of the rest of the game.

I’m looking forward to DLC, and especially any DLC that might give endless challenge mode. I could go to the Arkham games for weeks after completion and just beat guys up for hours. I’d like some of that in this game as well.

All in all, a solid must-buy.

New Domain

This weekend has been one of harsh lessons about maintaining domain hosting, registration and not tying personal/financial services to your own domain’s email servers, along with the endlessly greasy nature of the human race as a whole.

I found I had little to do with my markborle.com domain anymore these days, with the advent of social media kinda taking the place of the old blog systems for a lot of people.
But while I did my damndest to make sure that most important stuff regarding financial and personal info had been moved over to my gmail account, there were a couple products that are still tied to my old @markborle.com email address. Nothing I can’t work around with a couple phone calls come Monday morning, but still a real wakeup call.

It’s been so long since I registered that domain (it would’ve been early 2000s at the very latest) that I didn’t even know which domain registrar had control of it. Turns out it ended up in the hands of a real sketchy looking company called Namecheap. These clowns provide a “service” which auto-renews your domain under the guise of allowing you to re-register it if you should let it go. But in all my adventures, some real truth came to bear regarding this “Whoisguard” they use.

This domain sat dormant doing nothing for a few months; I know this because my Chrome homepage pointed at a hidden HTML file on the server which just functioned as a glorified Favorites bar that would be cross-platform and cross-browser; created in the days before syncing bookmarks and Google accounts, and that I left there because I am lazy. Prior to my attempts to recover this domain, it simply failed a DNS lookup, throwing back generic “not found” errors.

Once I sent an email to these shysters (that one’s for you, dad) at Namecheap, it apparently triggered something in their systems, something that said “This dormant domain is active, someone come snipe it!” and lo and behold, a squatter page is up the day after I sought info on how to recover it.

I don’t think any warnings are necessary, considering the name alone “Namecheap” is greasy as fuck, so this post is more just a venting, rambling explanation as to why markborle.com is now jadax.ca.

Jadax is a gaming name I use, and I decided that while my life isn’t all that interesting and worth doxxing, I’d like to be a little more anonymous on the internet so I’ll hide behind this name for posting videos and such.

I’m moving my desolate Youtube channel over to this name as well.
